On Sunday, October 13, 2019, the BMW Car Club of America New México Chapter held our annual Karl Fox Memorial Fall Tour. This year’s route was through the Jémez mountains to Los Alamos followed by lunch near Santa Fé. We met up in Río Rancho for a driver’s meeting; it was the last day of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, so we were treated to the sights of a mass ascension on a beautiful Sunday morning. We then had a nice drive from there to the Jémez Pueblo Walatowa Visitor Center for a break followed by a trip to the Jémez Hot Springs Soda Dam for a photo opportunity. We were fortunate to have professional photographer Jason Collin, an FAA certified drone pilot, to take aerial shots of our stop at the soda dam. On to the Valle Grande at the Valles Caldera National Preserve for another photo opportunity and then proceeded to the Manhattan Project National Historic Park at Los Alamos for an interesting walking visit, experiencing the history of the “city on the hill” both before and after the atomic bomb was developed. We finished off the Fall Tour with a wonderful lunch at Gabriel’s, North of Santa Fé.
