Nov 2024 Borderland BMW Lunch at Chope’s in La Mesa, NM
November 3 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
The November 2024 NM BMW CCA Borderland Region First Sunday Meetup will be November 3, 2024 for a noon lunch at the historic Chope’s Town Cafe and Bar in La Mesa, NM. The Cafe is located about 17 miles south of Las Cruces at 16145 NM 28.
Named for José “Chope” Benavides, the son of original proprietors Longina and Margarito Benavides, the restaurant was established in 1915 when Longina opened her home to sell enchiladas to local residents. Son José, who took over the restaurant in the 1940s, was nicknamed Chope by his father because he constantly wore chopos (overalls). Chope’s has been placed in the New Mexico Register of Cultural Properties and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Besides enchiladas, they are known for their chile rellenos.
The Borderland Region gatherings on the first Sunday of the month help build the community for BMW owners in west Texas, southern New Mexico, and northern Chihuahua in addition to the regular chapter events.
If you have suggestions for events in southern New Mexico or the El Paso area, contact borderland@nmbmwcca.org.
